Listening
You can listen without an account. Like most websites, our web server records each request, including your IP address, and those logs are kept for 14 days. We use Cloudflare Web Analytics to count page views.
Leaving a voice note
Your recording goes into a private review queue. It is only published if it's approved, and then as a numbered file dated with the day it arrived, without a name, the time or any account details.
To allow one note every six hours, the server keeps a record tied to your IP address and the time you sent your note. That record is never published. Records older than 48 hours are cleared out when new notes arrive.
Published notes may also be shared, or cut into short clips, on our Instagram and Threads, where those platforms' own privacy terms apply. Recordings that aren't approved are not published.
Group chat
Each message is stored with the display name you chose, the time, a random ID created by your browser and a record tied to your IP address. Only the latest 100 messages are kept.
To show a country flag next to your name, your IP address is sent to ipapi.co, a third-party lookup service.
Stored on your device
The site doesn't set cookies of its own. It keeps a few small settings in your browser's local storage: your chat name and that random ID, and when the voice-note desk reopens for you. Clearing this site's data in your browser removes them.
Removal and questions
To ask for a note to be taken down, or about anything we hold, email hello@theofficeofquietarchive.com with the file number or roughly when you sent it. Copies that other people have already saved or shared elsewhere are outside our control.
